Best Restaurants & Bars in Kuala Lumpur – Mr Chew’s Chino Latino Bar
We went to Mr Chew’s Chino Latino Bar, the relatively new swanky restaurant in downtown Kuala Lumpur for Big Teddy’s birthday last month. Located at the penthouse of WOLO Hotel in Bukit Bintang, Mr Chew’s Chino Latino Bar is set up in beautiful loft space by the same group of people behind the successful Troika Sky Dining – Fuego, Strato & Cantaloupe.
Dinner reservation on weekends is advisable given the limited tables, and only 2 seatings a night at 6pm or 8.30pm. We arrived slightly after 6pm and were quickly led to our table. Mr Chew’s Chino Latino Bar’s menu was quite extensive, from salad & raw things, small plates, rolls, buns & dumplings, fried stuff, bigger things, sides and desserts (Full menu here). The whole dining concept here is like Chinese food mixed with Spanish Tapas (hence the Chino Latino name), with lots of Asian inspired fusion tapas dishes as the main selections.
Good Food Great Dinner
Our celebration started with the pickle board with 6 different types of pickle appetizers. They were refreshing to start with my Mr Chew’s Take Away G&T (RM42+) and Big Teddy’s Kirin beer (RM30+). Then we continued to sample the raw Salmon Ceviche (RM48+), Nori Taco (RM28+), braised wagyu beef cheek rolls (RM48+) and catfish char siew deep fried bun (RM20+). Our main course was the absolutely delicious stewed lamb shoulder (RM110+) and extremely addictive Mr Chew’s Special Fried Rice (RM25+).
All the dishes we had during the course of our dinner were overall very good. The stood out dishes were definitely the braised wagyu beef cheek rolls, catfish char siew deep fried bun, stewed lamb shoulder and the special fried rice. The stewed lamb shoulder is so full of flavour and it paired very well with the fried rice. I also loved the uniquely packed Mr Chew’s Take Away G&T, which was strong and punchy.
The final bill for 2 came out to be around RM573 (≈US$150), not cheap in KL standard but fancy food here nowadays do cost quite a bit more. Since it was a birthday celebration dinner, plus the food and service were great, I wouldn’t mind splurging once in a while for my loved ones.

$150 for a birthday meal isn’t bad and Mr Chew’s looks like it is really nice dining. The special fried rice looks particularly delicious and the drinks sounds like a great pairing. I hope everybody enjoyed the evening.
How colorful! I love Spanish/Asian fusion, the two cuisines blend so well together. I love how delicately everything is presented!
Yum! I love the concept here – chinese food mixed with spanish tapas sounds like an interesting combo. And that takeaway G&T is so cute, love the presentation. Sounds like a great place for a special dinner
Wow, this place is so colorful and unique! Love the decor! I love fusion type restaurants since I like such different types of food.
Wow! I love all the artwork and colors! Both on the walls and in the presentation of the food. Fusing Chinese with the tapas concept is an intriguing idea. I think it sounds smart. I’d definitely eat here — especially to absorb the ambiance.
Mr Chew’s Chino Latino Bar looks beautiful! You had me at six different types of pickle appetizers. I really want those braised wagyu beef cheek rolls too. 🙂 Love how colorful it is!
