Food for Thought 149 – Kedai Kopi Hai Peng

This coffee shop has been around since 1940, founded by a fellow Hainanese, Wong Sang Hai. My mum used to tell me stories about this coffee shop since she was from Kemaman. After decades of winds & rains, the shop is standing tall at the corner of the Kemaman town. I always loved to order the toasted bread with kaya & butter, with a cold doze of Coco Lava. This toast bread is slightly different from the rest of the coffee shop as they use charcoal to toast the bread. After the stuffed crabs lunch, we went to this coffee shop for a quick drink, while my friends bought back the home made kaya. The place was packed with people on a Sunday afternoon and I was hoping that their service could be a lil better. Anyhow, it’s just a coffee shop in a small town that serves good bread & coffee. Can’t complain much, can I?
