Kuala Lumpur 101 – Le Meridien Hotel @ KL Sentral

Where to stay in KL Sentral? Le Meridien KL of course!

Le Meridien KL at KL Sentral first opened its door in 2004 and recently completed a RM50 million full renovations of their rooms. Being a loyal SPG member for years now, I decided to check out their new rooms with a weekend staycation on Big Teddy’s birthday last month. For just RM285++ (≈ USD64) a night, we got a Superior King Bed room (344sqf), with a large 48” Flat Screen TV and relatively huge bathroom fitted with rain shower and bathtub overlooking KL Sentral.

The room was swanky new with a grey overall tone, large and functional enough for a comfortable stay. The hotel was kind enough to even prepare some balloons and a big slice of cake for Big Teddy’s birthday after I emailed them earlier to request for a little in room surprise.

The hotel’s lobby is now more chic and cool looking, making the lobby more welcoming and comfortable. We went for a quick swim at the swimming pool, which is interconnected to Hilton Kuala Lumpur’s pool at the 8th floor. The gym is also a shared facility with Hilton which we had to walk all the way to the end at Hilton side of the building.

Breakfast in Room

Since it was a pamper weekend, we ordered breakfast to the room rather than going for the crowded buffet. 2 sets of breakfast with coffee cost about RM100 which came with a nicely laid out cart. However, the breakfast took a long while to arrive and some of the items were already cold.

Overall, it was still a good stay and I love their newly renovated rooms despite the less than perfect breakfast. The hotel is well connected and we did a self-walking tour around Brickfields by cutting through KL Sentral and Nu Sentral. Brickfields is such an unique area of Kuala Lumpur to explore and I’d highly recommend it for some unique cultural experience. Plus, I always love Le Meridien KL’s restaurants, especially at Prime, their steakhouse and will definitely go back for more of their beef steaks. So if you’re thinking of a staycation in Kuala Lumpur or a nice stay near the largest transportation hub of Malaysia, Le Meridien KL is definitely a sensible choice. I’m probably being biased as I always prefer newer hotels, but so far I have no major service issues with Starwood brand of hotels and would always recommend them as hotel preference. What about you? Have you stayed in this hotel before?

  1. When Jenn worked at Ritz Carlton, we traveled almost exclusively on the Marriott label. Now, we are doing a lot of Hiltons. This property does look beautiful. It’s a shame how one faux pas like a cold breakfast can taint the experience. 5 star service needs to extend at every level of the stay. My pet peeve is housekeepers knocking on the door three hours before checkout so you’ll leave your room.

  2. This hotel looks beautiful! I can agree about food being cold, and arriving after an extremely long wait. Like Jenn and Ed mentioned, I would hope that a hotel of this caliber would make sure that food arrives hot and ready to be be enjoyed! The pools do look very nice, though!

  3. This looks like such a comfortable place to stay at in KL! It is very nice of them to prepare the birthday treats! The bathroom has such a stunning city view. I would probably spend a considerate amount of time there just for the views!

  4. This looks like a lovely hotel! The pool is so pretty and it’s great they helped out preparing the birthday treats! Glad to know about this whenever I travel to KL.
