W Kuala Lumpur – Hotel Review

W Hotel Kuala Lumpur

Looking for a luxury hotel staycation in Kuala Lumpur? Check out W Kuala Lumpur

One of our favourite staycation hotel choices in our own city is W Kuala Lumpur and we were more than happy to revisit every so often. Ever since international travels have been severely curtailed due to the unprecedented pandemic crisis, we have been doing local travels in search of a different experience to recharge away from home. Therefore recently, when we are gradually settling into the new norm with the additional health SOPs kicked in, we returned to W Kuala Lumpur for our 3rd stay in just 18 months (maybe we should just make it a 6 monthly date with the hotel going forward). Famed for its breathtaking undisrupted view of the iconic Petronas Twin Towers view and its trademarked vibrant vibe, W Kuala Lumpur is my first choice of trendy hotel in Malaysia!

The Room – Marvelous Suite

This is my 3rd time staying in the Marvelous Suite (Big Teddy was 1 behind as I did my hen do here before the wedding). The Marvelous Suite is a large 1,100 square feet bedroom with not one but two huge LED HDTVs and Bluetooth soundbars in the living room and bedroom. It also has a lovely bar island, topped off with a mixology alcoholic minibar, Nespresso® machine, TWG Teas right in the suite.

The best part of the room is the separate living space with an L-shaped sofa, overlooking the magnificent Petronas Twin Towers. I will never get tired of that view honestly and could look at this iconic building the whole day.

As expected, the W signature bed is super comfortable and we didn’t have any problems to get a good night sleep. The 2nd best part of the room is the amazing bathroom which boasts a luxurious rain shower and a separate freestanding bathtub. The Claybrook Eclipse stone bathtub is my dream bathtub that I would love to have it in my bathroom someday.

Overall, this room is so spacious and luxurious, perfect for a staycation without feeling claustrophobic, and even a small party with the girls or the boys like I did with my hen do last year.

Dining Options – Yen & Flock

Yen is the Chinese Cantonese Restaurant located on the 8th floor of W Kuala Lumpur. This orange glowing contemporary restaurant is a mix of glamorous ambience serving a traditional menu with a modern twist. We loved the food here especially the duck dishes. We had tried the Yen Golden Duck (an interpretation of Beijing Peking Duck) that could be turned into 2 courses (MYR228), and the half portion Peking Duck (MYR75) at separate occasions. Another signature dish that we would highly recommend is the Szechuan Squirrel Whole Tiger Grouper Fish with pineapple, sweet and sour sauce (MYR198). It is such a delicate and delicious dish that definitely worth a try.

Yen also serves lovely T-Infused Cocktails, such as The Long Jingle Goodnight (MYR45), a Gin and Long King Tea based cocktail, and Branching Out (MYR40), a Vodka and Chrysanthemum Tea based cocktail.

Meanwhile, Flock is the modern Australian restaurant which also serves up delicious local specialities. Flock is also the breakfast venue for in-house guests, as well as the twice a month RETOX Sunday Brunch.

Breakfast Menu

RETOX Sunday Brunch is one of the best brunch places in the city and this place was absolutely buzzing when we were there earlier this month. Price from MYR198+ (non-alcoholic) or MYR298+ (free flow of alcoholic drinks), the selections of food are amazing, more so when the restaurant sources organic and local produces from Malaysia, to supplement their premium ingredients. Champagne packages are also available too if you want more than just beer, wine or cocktails.

More Happenings: RETOX at Dusk is happening every 2nd & 4th Friday of the month from 7PM – 11PM with same packages.

WET Deck & WOOBAR

W Kuala Lumpur features 2 bars, which are WET Deck and WOOBAR. WET Deck is the alfresco bar right next to the pool overlooking the stunning Petronas Twin Towers. This is the perfect place to party or to wind down depending on your mood. Plus, the DJs here always play some great music to lift the energy and their signature cocktails are awesome.

Meanwhile, WOOBAR is the urban chic indoor bar that also serves the afternoon tea. The LED curtains around WOOBAR offers a different vibe than the WER DECK. We have had great happy hours here and I love the light bites here.

AWAY Spa

Located on the 13th floor of W Kuala Lumpur, AWAY Spa is the 12,000 square feet in-house spa offering everything pampering from massages, facials, sauna and baths. Under normal times, we would have the couple’s massage together in the same therapy room, but due to the health SOP during the pandemic, the hotel has to only allow 1 patron per therapy room. We both decided to pamper ourselves with a 60 minutes body massage which I choose the traditional Urut massage (medium-firm pressure), while Big Teddy settled for Relax massage (light pressure).

The ultra modem massage bed has always been the trademark for AWAY Spa. I absolutely loved the relaxing ambience, and the masseuse has the best technique to relax all my tight knots. Also, the massage oil that AWAY Spa is using made my skin extremely nourished and smelling great. It was a long time since I had a proper massage thanks to all the craziness around the pandemic now.

Special Offer: Get a MYR150 rebate for any spa treatment booked between 10AM till 2PM at AWAY Spa.

Other Amenities – FIT Gym and WET Swimming Pool

FIT Gym is a 24/7 state of the art gym so there will be no excuse for not hitting the treadmill.

The stunning WET swimming pool offers the best view of the Petronas Twin Towers right next to WET Deck Bar. Perfect for making a splash (not so much on lap swimming though), this pool has definitely seen its fair share of parties here.

Instagram Worthy Spots

Being such a trendy hotel, W Kuala Lumpur has plenty of Instagram worthy spots to offer, from the amazing swimming pool and WET Deck overlooking the iconic Petronas Twin Towers, neon lid lobby and WOOBAR to the ultra-chic room/suite. If there’s one hotel brand that could inspire and enhance your creativity, W Hotels will the top one!

Final Thoughts on W Kuala Lumpur

This is the hotel that we had the most staycation thus far in our own city. W Kuala Lumpur has the complete package! We loved the amazing room, the top-notch service, and the exquisite food here. They have enough restaurants and bars, superb activities such as spa, gym and swimming pool in the hotel to make it a perfect staycation in the city cause you won’t even want to leave the hotel. Whatever/Whenever is W Hotel’s motto and this property definitely lives up to it!
