Why Fly to London When You Can Have Burger & Lobster here in Genting Highlands?
So the girls decided to have a day trip up to Genting Highlands to celebrate my belated birthday last month over a long weekend. Our main aim was the fairly new Burger & Lobster Genting, the only B&L outlet in South East Asia. I’d been to the ones in London couple of times and always enjoyed the good food there (previous review here). Therefore, I really wanted to see if the Malaysian outlet could do any better than the original outlets in London. After almost an hour drive from Kuala Lumpur due to bad traffic (usually it takes half an hour) and wasted time by going to the now defunct Genting Skyway, we managed to find our way to the new Awana Skyway (it’s so new that technically the whole building is still under construction!). However, what we didn’t expect was the huge crowd at the cable car station and got stuck for another good hour just to get to the top of Genting Highlands, 5,710 feet above sea level that is.
Still, our moods were not dampened by all these delays as we were in no rush and just wanted to hang out with each other. So we endured all the traffic jam and human jam just to get to Burger & Lobster Genting right after 4pm in the afternoon. Then, there was the infamous looooooonnnnggg queue!
As this outlet doesn’t take reservations and only available for walk in customers, we queued for another good 40 minutes before we eventually got seated! This is probably the longest journey I ever had to take just to try out a new restaurant! In London, we could have been waiting in the bar area and start ordering cocktails or shots instead of standing outside and watching other people eating their lobsters. Anyway, things got better after we were seated. The service was a tad slow and all the waiters seemed quite lost at what’s available and what’s not (we wanted to try the oversized sharing cocktail, Genting Opulance but was told it’s sold out at 5pm on a Saturday), but food soon came quickly after we ordered.
The Lobster at Burger & Lobster Genting
Since I’d tried the original lobster in London, I decided to taste the Chilli Lobster, happened to be the most expensive dish on the menu (RM173++/US$40++) instead. Chili Lobster dish here in only available in this outlet as it took inspiration from the South East Asian’s favourite food, Chilli Crab. The portion was quite big and thank goodness I was starving after all the waiting and queueing the whole day. Their Chilli Lobster is the bomb I must say. It was so full with flavours covered in the thick sweet and spicy red sauce! The brioche slices at the side were the perfect companion to wipe the pot clean and I couldn’t get enough of this combination. This is quite a messy dish I have to warn you, but don’t be afraid to get dirty and use your fingers to savour every best parts of the lobster.
The Original Lobster (RM153++/US$35++) that my other girls ordered turned out to be a mixed bag of reviews. One was happy with her lobster, the other one has to return her lobster because it wasn’t fresh. And she was particularly upset after they replaced her lobster with a new one, the new lobster had shrunk ⅓ of the size compared to the previous one. So my recommendation is to go for the Chilli Crab if you’re here. The Original Lobster should wait until you get to try the original outlets in London.
Since they just opened in late December 2016, barely half a year into their operation, and this is the only outlet in South East Asia, there are definitely teething issues to be addressed and I hope their food and service could get better. The expectations was high when I came here and while I wasn’t disappointed as my food was great, but the whole dining experience from the long queue, food consistency, beverage availability and service quality could have been better. So I hope the next time I return to this restaurant, it will be a perfect experience… So have you tried Burger & Lobster before? Or tell me your favourite lobster place!

I didn’t even notice this restaurant in London. Shoot! Because the Chili Lobster looks FANTASTIC! I’m not surprised there was a long queue to get seated. But it sounds like it was worth it.
I will look for Burger & Lobster the next time I’m in London. Juliann is right, the Chili Lobster looks great. Based on your long trek for this meal, I know the restaurant in London must have impressed you.
I’m not sure I’d have been very happy with your lunch experience in Malaysia — between the long wait time and the slow service.
This looks so delicious! I love burgers and lobsters! I would def try the chili lobster if I went. It looks so flavorful and yummy!
I have never even considered eating burgers and lobsters together, let alone a franchise. That being said, the food looks solid. The lobster chili looks really good.
This place looks super busy, but for good reasons! Too bad that your friend had a bad experience with the lobster not being fresh – if you paid that much money, you would expect everything was up to the standard. I would take your advice to try the original lobster in London and try chili lobster in Genting!
Yum, that chili lobster sounds so good! Glad to hear it lived up to your expectations. Sounds like it was quite a process to get there, but it must have been worth it!
I remember randomly reading about Burger & Lobster online before my trip to London couple years back and I was delightfully surprised with my visit there. That chili lobster looks absolutely amazing although don’t think they had that on the menu in London. Love that they’ve tailored their menu to Asian tastes!
