The Best Walking Trail in Ubud – Campuhan Ridge Walk
When you are so close to nature in Ubud, you must not miss the Campuhan Ridge Walk. This free and easy nature trek to the central highland town of Ubud is a beautiful walk filled with nature and greenery. The Campuhan Ridge Walk spans an approximate nine kilometres in total, passing over the lush valley of the Sungai Wos River. Since we were staying in Ubud for 2 nights on our last trip, we decided to check out this trail before we moved to Jimbaran for the rest of the trip. Also, do check out this post too if you are looking for other Instagram worthy places in Bali.
We walked to the starting point of Campuhan Ridge Walk near Warwick Ibah Luxury Villas & Spa along the Raya Ubud Main Road. Then followed the sign to the hill or Karsa Kafe across a small bridge and river. You will know you’re on the right track when you see the Pura Gunung Lebah Temple on your left. After which, just follow the paved trail up the hill to begin the 2km walk to Karsa Kafe.
We got there at around 10am and it was very hot. I wasn’t 100% ready for the long walk under such hot sun but I persevered and got til the end of the 2km walk after half an hour. I really love this paved walkway that cut right through the hills elevated along 2 rivers on each side. The walk felt forever at the beginning but got better as we picked up pace…
Karsa Kafe – Best Place to Stop for a Break
The walk will then lead to a local village where we had a peak into some of the locals’ lifestyles. There are also some beautiful rice fields further along the walk near Karsa Kafe, where we stopped to cool down before we turned around for the walk back. Karsa Kafe is a beautiful cafe right in the middle of paddy rice fields and ponds and we had a nice hut to ourselves surrounded by water. We ordered some coconut water which was perfect after so much sweats for such a hot day. After some rest, we took the same route back. Walking back felt much easier though, maybe in my mind I already knew how the route would look like.
Although it was extremely hot the day we were out there, I did enjoy the walk overall. The scenery was very soothing and calming to watch. It was quite an easy walk right in the heart of Ubud, so I’d strongly recommend it if you’re staying in Ubud. Have you been on any hike in Bali? Tell me about it!

This scenery looked is amazing! I was surprised that the path was paved. That’s nice. I would love to get a glimpse into the locals’ lives and enjoy a drink in the rice paddy. Despite the heat, it all looks like such a peaceful way to spend the day.
Beautiful place — and great that you powered through the heat. I’m sure the coconut water was much needed. I’d love to know more about the temple you passed.
Ah what a beautiful little walk to do. I guess when it’s that hot everything seems hard to do. Reminds in when I was in Belize I could barely walk anywhere ha ha!
Looks like a lovely walk. There’s nothing more refreshing on a hot day than a nice coconut.
This walk looks so fun. It’s great that it’s a paved trail and there are amenities on the way. Leaves out the pressure of making sure you pack everything you need for the day – and lets you experience some fun places along the way.
Jenn would totally be melting on a hike that started at 10:00. Congrats to you for making it happen. I love the trail conditions all the way to the top. The paved path looks marvelous. We did a similar hike in Phi Phi, Thailand to the high point. Isn’t it amazing that, after a hike like that, you can get coconuts at the summit. How cool is that?
There is so much greenery on this Campuhan Ridge Walk! It doesn’t seem to hard to get a great workout too. I’d probably go right after sunrise or before sunset to avoid the heat 😛
Ubud looks so beautiful! Love this walk you took to experience the beauty of the area. Love all the greenery everywhere!
Rice paddies and coconuts–looks like heaven! I’d love to visit Bali. Your pictures make it look so beautiful and natural, glad you had fun exploring!
It is an amazing walk – the Campuhan Ridge Walk in one of the best cities on Bali. I love the eating possibilities in Ubud as well –
so much healthy and delicious food
It can be really hot on the walk – I will really recommend bringing a large bottle of water
I visited Bali earlier this year but unfortunately didn’t make it to the Ridge Walk. It’s great to read about it and see pictures so hopefully next time I’ll have time to visit! Btw don’t you just love how green and beautiful Bali is? I’m definitely missing that!
I’d been to Bali a few times before and this was the 1st time I made it there. You should check it out the next time too!
