Kebaya Restaurant – Best Peranakan Restaurant in Penang
This Peranakan restaurant, Kebaya Restaurant was voted 11th on the TripAdvisor’s annual Traveller’s Choice awards for Asia’s Restaurants recently. So since we were staying at the Seven Terraces (hotel review here), we made a dinner reservation the last night when we were there. Although I was still not feeling well from the whole food poisoning ordeal, I still put up a brave face and tried to enjoy the dinner.
The dinner menu was simple, RM120++ per person for 4 courses of Nyonya cuisine to choose from Appetiser, Main Course, Greens and Dessert. I couldn’t really taste most of the food, only the Pandan Creme Brulee that really stood out and I finished it all. It was so good that I still crave for it sometimes even when I’m back in KL!
The Otak Otak re-imagined was like pastry, although I still love the original version better. So for the appetiser, the Crispy Joo Hoo Char Roll tasted better. Also, I think we ordered too much creamy main course, like the Prawn Geng and Grilled Snapper which were all drenched in creamy sauces which my weak stomach didn’t quite enjoy. However, Big Teddy loved every single dishes and raved that it was the best dinner he had in a long time. Well, I’m glad that one of us really enjoyed the dinner. I should return one day and hopefully, I could really taste every single dish properly…
