Food For Thought 187 – The Restaurant at Marini’s On 57

Our birthday celebration continued on at the Restaurant at Marini’s On 57 after a few drinks and snacks at the Bar. It was already late at night about 9.30pm when we went over for dinner, and the dinner crowd was far lesser than those drinkers across the hall. We had a nice table with KL Tower view and also the KLCC Petronas Twin Towers close to us. As the restaurant was brand new, just less than 2 days old when we were there on Friday, we didn’t expect much out of it as we just wanted to have a good time and let F blew some candles on her birthday night. Menu selection was quite limited as you can see from below. Being labelled as an Italian restaurant it was funny that none of the girls ordered any pasta for the night, perhaps we were too cautious about taking carb so late at night. In the end, I went for the Pan Friend Chicken Breast while the rest went for Braised Lamb Shank, Roasted Tuna and Pan Fried Seabass. The food took a while to come, and unfortunately C had to return her Tuna dish as it was overcooked. Poor girl waited for a very long time as we were finishing our food and her Tuna was still no where in sight. My chicken breast was the smallest portion of all but it was just nice for me as I’d stop taking heavy dinner anyway. The meat was tender and I loved the creamy mustard sauce that came with it, perhaps pasta could be a better idea since the chicken meats were thickly covered in the creamy mustard sauce.
Overall, the Braised Lamb Shank turned out to be the best dish of the night, everyone simply loved it and the portion was decent. My pan fried chicken breast was okay too but I’d recommend to stay away from their seafood menu since the Tuna and Seabass both turned out to be quite bland. I won’t be so harsh to a less than 2 days old restaurant as there are always rooms for improvement, but the food here is definitely better than average restaurant (apart from the seafood maybe) if you don’t mind the price. If you are thinking about Tanzini at G Tower, this new restaurant will kill it with their breathtaking view and better taste of food (lamb and chicken at least). Service wise both place were equally messy when they first opened, so let’s hope they will improve from here onwards.
The waiters were nice to bring out the cakes we bought from Ben’s and sang F her birthday song, we girls added the Cantonese version at her request… I still couldn’t believe someone would actually request for Cantonese version of the birthday song to be sung aloud in an Italian restaurant…. ^o^
In the end, we all had a great night and were glad that we came to check out this new place.
