Cor Blimey! British Fish and Chips @ Damansara Uptown – Review

Cor Blimey Fish and Chips

The Best Fish and Chips in Town – Cor Blimey!

From the original outlet in Subang Jaya, Cor Blimey! Recently opened a new branch in Damansara Uptown, which is much closer to my usual hangout places. Since Big Teddy and I always on a lookout for good fish and chips restaurant in Kuala Lumpur and Petaling Jaya, we went over last week for a quick dinner.

Cor Blimey! is a traditional British expression of wonderful surprise or gratitude. I’d heard Big Teddy uses it quite frequently so I find it quite amusing to see it as a name of a restaurant.

The restaurant was half full when we got there around 7 pm. We loved the simple white layout of the restaurant, which is decorated with a lot of British iconic symbols like the Union Jack, city signs and images. We also read the story of Cor Blimey! where the founder, Adam, who was raised in the leafy English county of Hampshire, has a personal mission to bring authentic British fish and chips to his second home where his family roots located and share his passion for British food with local Malaysians.

The FIsh & Chips

The menu was simple with the choice of fish, from British flown Haddock and Atlantic Cod, or Butterfish, Snapper and Dory. Then you can select the fish batter and 1 side or even add on an additional sauce for your chips. We started with their Fishermans Catch (RM14.90+) and Broccoli Cheese Croquette (RM9.90+), while we wait for our Haddock with mushy peas  (RM 35.90+) and Butterfish with coleslaw (RM26.90+). I added curry sauce (RM2.00+) for my chips too just to spice things up a little. We absolutely loved the food here and Big Teddy gave his seal of approval from a British point of view. The batter was light and crispy, their hand cut chips were chunky and of good quality (it’s hard to find good potatoes here in Malaysia). The tartar sauce was great with the fish but the curry was a lil bland to my taste.

We also ordered a dessert, Apple Crumble (RM13.90+) which Big Teddy finished most of it because he loved it. I’m not a sweet tooth person but I did love the crumble more than the apple… 😀 The final bill with drinks came up to about RM134 (≈US$31) for a lovely no-fuss dinner for two.

So we found our new favourite fish & chips place in KL/Klang Valley (the other one we love is The Magnificent Fish & Chips Bar at Changkat Bukit Bintang). What about you? Where’s your favourite local fish & Chips joint?

  1. We do fish and chips a little different in So-Cal. First, you take the fish and batter it up real good and then fry it. So far, nothing unusual and then you put it into a tortilla. Really more of fish tacos. This summer our daughter worked at a local chain – Rubios and she brought us all the fish tacos we could eat.

It’s a shame about the curry sauce being to bland. It was looking so wonderful up to that point.

  2. While I don’t eat fish anymore, I’ve had quite a few vegan fish and chips that are ahhmazing! I’d love to make it back to Britain and try some there as I’m sure it’s even better.

  3. We have a couple of decent fish & chips joints in Vancouver but I’ve never heard of BUTTERFISH! That sounds sooo delicious. That’d be my go-to order!

  4. That croquette looks delicious! Curry sauce on chips sounds awesome too! We don’t have anything like that here in Calgary. It is nice to have something like that in the city you live in!

  5. I’m a sucker for a good fish and chips! And I love how many more options were available here, the apple dessert seems like the perfect cherry on top! Now I’m hungry haha 🙂

  6. Best is Magnificent Fish&Chips in Changkat , now its pricey. Cor Blimey is abit sterile. No beer in their batter.
