Big Teddy’s craving for fish and chips had led us to The Magnificent Fish & Chips Bar at Changkat Bukit Bintang. Apparently been around since 2006 (a long time for a Changkat Bukit Bintang outlet), I’d never thought of checking out this place until last weekend. Well better late than never…
After having to try different fish and chips in the UK, I sometimes do crave for it, but it was scarce in KL. So when we first arrived at the restaurant, it did remind me of the English pub with dark wood furniture, chalk board menu and the big Union Jack flag across the wall.
The menu is all British and we settled for prawn cocktail, Sunday roast lamb and silver cod fish and chip. We also had mushy peas and curry sauce as our sides. I’m not a British food expert but Big Teddy being British gave his big thumb up to all the food we ordered. First he said the Marie Rose sauce of the Prawn cocktail was perfect (although I did feel the portion is a little small), then the Silver Cod fish and chips was cooked to perfection (I love the Tartar sauce too and the chips were very addictive). Their Sunday roast lamb was super huge with cauliflower cheese, crispy baked potato, vegetable and Yorkshire pudding. I found the lamb is a little hard to my taste but we still demolished most of the food on our plate. Their baked potatoes here were some of the best I had in a while in Malaysia (it’s so hard to find good potatoes here once you had tasted the great ones in Europe).
Overall, our Sunday brunch came out to be RM216.24 for two person, not the cheapest option in town but when you do miss those good British home cooked food, probably this is the price to pay in KL to get some.
I was at first skeptical that the food here was sub par after being around so many years (some of the pub grubs in KL have deteriorated quite a fare bit over the years), but was pleasantly surprised that the food here was still good and delicious. We will return again next time and hopefully the consistency stays…. Well at least we know now where to get our British food cravings satisfied for the time being~!
