Best Luxury Hotel in Petaling Jaya – New World Petaling Jaya Hotel
Opened in January 2018, New World Petaling Jaya Hotel is the latest 5-star hotel in Klang Valley, Malaysia and the handful of luxury hotels in Petaling Jaya. Located within the Paradigm integrated complex (where Paradigm Mall is also located), New World Petaling Jaya Hotel is occupying the top 12 floors of The Azure tower with a vantage view of the city. New World Petaling Jaya Hotel is also the first Malaysia property for New World Hotels & Resorts, which I’d stayed at their Beijing sister hotel when I was in Beijing the last trip (full review here). This hotel features 300 guest rooms, a grand ballroom for 1,000 guests, and an amazing outdoor Infinity-edge rooftop pool.
Big Teddy and I continued our monthly staycation by checking out this new hotel in the different part of the city, away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Kuala Lumpur.
The Room
The hotel lobby is located at level 2 lined with big and tall window panes that allow ample of natural lights into its spacious lounge. Check-in was swift and we were quickly made our way to our Residence Club Premier Room.
Our room was large at 45 m²/484 ft² with a panoramic view of the quiet side of the city (New World Petaling Jaya Hotel’s guestrooms start from 36m² for Deluxe room to 73m² suites). Fitted with bamboo wood flooring, a comfortable King bed, separate shower and bathtub, the room is quite homey. I love the modern design of the room, luxurious and functional at the same time.
The king bed was firm and comfy, which gave us a good night of sleep. I also liked that they have a lovely sofa cum daybed corner by the window where I could sit and enjoy a book or browse my iPad. I wished the TV in the room was larger though, as I’m so used to huge flat screen TV. Nonetheless, I loved that I could easily hook up my iPad to the TV easily using an HDMI cable, and continue to watch my Netflix series on the TV. I couldn’t do that in most of the 5-star hotel rooms that I’d been recently.
Meanwhile, the marble bathroom with separate bathtub and walk-in shower is spacious enough for an enjoyable bathroom time. It’s always a pleasure to have a large bathroom like this in a luxury hotel.
Residence Club Living Room
Since we have the access to the 29th floor Residence Club Living Room, we made good use of the club lounge access. Some of the privileges included are cocktails and canapes from 6pm-8pm, private breakfast from 7am-10.30am, coffee/tea/fruit juices/aerated drinks from 11am-5pm, complimentary pressing service for 1 set of suit/dress per stay etc.
We were glad to have a quiet pre-dinner wine (for me) and beer (for Big Teddy) before we headed down to Pasar Baru for a sumptuous dinner.
Rooftop Swimming Pool
What is the best feature of New World Petaling Jaya Hotel? It has to be the 300m² Infinity-edge rooftop pool on the 30th floor. Overlooking the beautiful mountainous skyline and Kuala Lumpur city, this is the probably the sweeping eye view of KL that I’d ever seen. It’s amazing how you could admire KL city skyline with an unobstructed view from the rooftop deck of New World Petaling Jaya Hotel. The swimming pool is large enough for laps, while the infinity edge allows guests to enjoy the beautiful city view. However, I wished there were more sun loungers available than just the 4. We had to use the restaurant’s tables and chairs next to the swimming pool when the limited sun loungers were all occupied although it was a minor inconvenience for the hotel guests. Nonetheless, the view from the rooftop was so captivating that we’d spent the whole morning enjoying ourselves in and by the pool.
The hotel has a well-equipped gym at 29th floor perfect for a workout session. Big Teddy is always critical over the treadmill machines in the hotel, although we didn’t use the gym this time around, he was pleased with the look of this hotel gym.
Dining Options – Pasar Baru, PJ’s Bar & Grill and The Lounge
During our stay, we tried both the main restaurants of the hotel. Open daily from 6am – 10.30pm, Pasar Baru is the all-day dining restaurant in New World Petaling Jaya Hotel serving breakfast, lunch and dinner in food market style. Located at the same level as the lobby at Level 2, we had our breakfast and dinner here and we loved the Malaysian cuisine centric food in this restaurant. The buffet dinner we had in conjunction with the Ramadan Fasting month was excellent. I had trouble to make my choices over the vast selections of Malay, Indian and Chinese food available at the buffet spread. This is probably the best Malaysian buffet I’d tried so far. The breakfast spread was sumptuous and enjoyable as well, as I’ll always go for my Malaysian choices and Big Teddy will go for his Western spread.
The next day after we checked out, we went to PJ’s Bar & Grill at 30th floor (next to the swimming pool) for lunch before we left. As it was still the fasting month, the restaurant was quiet and we almost had the entire restaurant to ourselves. We didn’t mind the emptiness as we enjoyed the unobstructed view of the beautiful city skyline through the large window panes all around the restaurant. The menu featured mainly grilled selections, and tapas-style small plates perfect for sharing without overstuffing ourselves. The food was fresh and delicious, we really enjoyed every dishes we ordered (detailed review here). If you are looking for a great restaurant with a killer view, PJ’s Bar & Grill is definitely on the top list. Also, PJ’s Bar & Grill has a cigar lounge if you are into a little puff.
Last but not least, The Lounge next to the lobby at Level 2 is the casual light dining option where they serve savoury snacks or sweet dessert, couple with tea, coffee, wine or cocktails of your choice. It definitely looked cosy when we passed by but we didn’t get to try it.
Getting Around
New World Petaling Jaya Hotel shared the same carpark with the Paradigm Shopping Mall with ample of parking. However, it was a bit tricky to find the right entrance to the hotel lobby. The hotel is also located near Kelana Jaya LRT Station which is easy to hop over on a taxi or Grab car. With the shopping mall attached to the hotel, it is so convenient for shopping or even catch a nice movie. Although the hotel is located outside of Kuala Lumpur city, it is quite easy to get in and out of the city with the LRT train connection or a short half an hour car or taxi ride.
Final Thoughts on New World Petaling Jaya Hotel
New World Petaling Jaya Hotel is a welcome addition to this part of the town. Overall, we enjoyed our staycation at New World Petaling Jaya Hotel. Their service was prompt and the fittings are of good quality. The rooftop swimming pool and restaurant are so stunning with an incredible view of the KL city. Those are my favourite features of New World Petaling Jaya Hotel.
So, instead of staying at Kuala Lumpur downtown, why not choose a lovely hotel like New World Petaling Jaya Hotel, where you are not too far from the buzz, yet close enough to some of the best actions (think Malaysian food). With a killer view from the rooftop, New World Petaling Jaya Hotel is a beautiful property worth checking out!

I love the modern, minimalist design of New World Petaling Jaya — that bathroom is gorgeous. And your food pictures are making me hungry — the seafood on the buffet looks wonderful. I would definitely put this hotel on my list of places to stay in Malaysia!
I hope you do come visit soon!
The view from the roof top is pretty fantastic. The New World looks like it hits all the marks for a luxury hotel. We almost never watch TV in the room so that wouldn’t be a detraction for us at all.
They got it absolutely right with the beautiful rooftop!
What a gorgeous rooftop swimming pool! I’d spend all my time up there. The rooms look comfy, but I’d save that for sleeping and enjoy the views from the roof.
Yes the rooftop swimming pool is just stunning!
