Food For Thought 204 – IPPUDO Ramen (博多一風堂) @ KL Pavilion

IPPUDO Ramen finally arrived in Malaysia with its 1st outlet opened at KL Pavilion since  Valentine’s Day 2013. I tried going there for lunch one afternoon but it was closed for private function. Hence, at long last I went there for brunch on the last Sunday of March. Arrived just before noon, the queue was already built up in front of the restaurant with lots of people waiting for tables. However, the queue moved quickly especially for 2 person’s table. In less than 15 minutes, we were seated at the tall bar table, albeit a little uncomfortable but it was better than to wait for another table.

Their ramen menu was simple with 3 different types of pork bone broths to choose from, either Shiromaru Motoaji (Original recipe Tonkotsu broth), Akamaru Shinaj (The 25-year old recipe requires slow cooking over long hours to achieve a perfect emulsion of oil and liquid, creating a rich and flavorful Tonkotsu) or Spicy Karaka-men (Signature Tonkotsu broth with spicy miso).
My sister picked the original Shiromaru Motoaji and I chose the Spicy Karaka-men with Tamago by default. The ramen came quicky despite the huge lunch crowd. I must say their broth is the best that I’d tasted so far out of all the ramen joints in KL. The taste was just right for me, extremely addictive and not too salty. The ultra thin noodle texture was also cooked to perfection, you can request it to be cooked soft, medium or hard. I preferred my ramen texture to be hard as it made chewing more enjoyable.  My tamago egg was nicely served with the right amount of yolk running when I cut it open.
Overall, it was a very nice ramen brunch indeed. I’d rank IPPUDO as one of my top 2 favourite ramen joints in KL but personally I still prefer Menya Musashi’s Tsukemen (the dry ramen version) for the extra chewy noodle but IPPUDO has better ramen broth if I crave for something soupy. When I head to Japan next month perhaps I should try the IPPUDO Ramen there too….
