My Favourite & Best Peking Duck Restaurant in Beijing – Xi He Ya Ju Restaurant (羲和雅居)
Xi He Ya Ju Restaurant (羲和雅居) was my 1st restaurant I visited in Beijing when I 1st came in Beijing in 2008. It had since become my favourite place and my pick for best Peking Duck (北京烤鸭) restaurant in Beijing. Located at the northeast corner of Ritan Park, this courtyard/hutong styled restaurant has been around a long time. I took Big Teddy there best Peking Duck restaurants in Beijing for our 1st lunch in Beijing and he fell in love with the Peking Duck instantly. For RMB353, we had a great feast for 2 including a whole Peking Duck to ourselves. The price of the duck has gone up so much since I last been here 4 years ago, it was RMB108 per duck I remembered and now it was RMB198 for the same duck thanks to the boom of the Chinese economy over the past few years.
Tips To Enjoy Peking Duck:
- The Peking Duck is usually cut by the skilful chef in front of the diners quickly and precisely into chops and slices to make the whole duck dish more manageable.
- After the cut pieces are presented on the table, place 1 of the thin pancake on your plate.
- Lay the crispy skin and tender duck meat in the middle.
- Add the other condiments, such as cucumber, onions, carrots to the pancake.
- Splash some sweet bean sauce to the pancake.
- Fold the pancake from both sides and from the bottom.
- Eat it with your hand or chopsticks. Bon appetite!
Other recommended dishes include the fried beef with sesame and stir fried four season beans with chilli. Their knife shaved noodle is quite good too if you love a noodle dish. As usual, we over-ordered and had to take back some left over food. Well, at least I got to savour some of my favourite dishes from the good old times… Do check out this restaurant if you’re looking to taste the Peking Duck in Beijing.
