Best Romantic Hotel for Honeymoon in Malaysia – The St Regis Langkawi
Langkawi has always been the best place for romantic getaways and a top destination for honeymoon in Malaysia, especially for those who are looking for top-notch luxury experience at some of Malaysia’s best 5-star hotels. As a prelude to our honeymoon The St Regis in the Maldives later in April, I took Big Teddy to The St Regis Langkawi for his birthday celebration, as he has yet to experience The St Regis experience that I’d been raving about all these years (my previous review on The St Regis Langkawi here).
I love how The St Regis Langkawi took care of our entire from the time we landed until we departed the island. Upon arrival, we were swiftly picked up by the hotel staff and whisked away in the BMW 7 series arranged by the hotel. The half an hour journey in the luxury car ride to the hotel set the tone for the great experiences awaiting us at the hotel. Upon checkout, we were sent to the airport in the same BMW 7 series, and used the exclusive airport lounge for hotel guests while waiting for our flight to depart.
Check-in was swift since the room had been prepaid, with refreshing welcome drinks and tidbits served in the meantime. Since we arrived early before noon (normal check-in time is 3pm) and our room wasn’t ready, we had a tour of the hotel and enjoyed a complimentary 10-minutes neck and shoulder massage at the Iridium Spa (one of the perks of being a Platinum Elite member with Starwood/Marriott).
The Room – Penthouse Suite
Another perk of being a Platinum Elite member, our room was also upgraded to the Penthouse Suite. This enormously spacious room (262sqm/2819sqft to be exact) is even bigger than my current home! There are only 2 Penthouse Suites in this property with 1 King bed, gorgeous sea view, separate living area, walk-in wardrobe, alfresco dining and outdoor seating area with huge balcony area located at the corner top floor of the main building.
This was the largest suite that I’d ever stayed. Beautifully designed and plenty of space for just the 2 of us, I especially loved the outdoor balcony overlooking the gorgeous sea view.
The bathroom is also nicely spaced and well stocked with good quality toiletries. The bathtub is a bit small for 2 people (especially with the size of Big Teddy) but still good enough for a bubble bath together.
The hotel was charming enough to set up the birthday wish for Big Teddy on the bed when we arrived. He was very happy to see the effort in setting it up and took pictures to show off to his friends. As expected, the bed was extremely comfortable and we had good night sleeps easily.
I love St Regis’ signature butler services where they offer unpacking and packing of our items (in a very organised and thoughtful way), complimentary 2-pieces of garment pressing daily, on demand coffee or tea services in the room, as well as personalised activities arrangements during the stay.
The butler team was so sweet and attentive by surprising us daily with different treats, such as rose petals bath, chocolates, a photo of us in a picture frame, T-shirts and even a set of the straw hats and bag to bring home with us.
Other Romantic Room Types
If you want something even fancier for a romantic getaway or honeymoon, consider the Sunset Villa, which is a 1-bed villa over water with a plunge pool.
Else, you can consider the St Regis Pool Suite, albeit smaller than the rooms mentioned above but still have the separate living area and private plunge pool.
Iridium Spa
A visit to the spa is a must do for couple getaways or honeymoon. The St Regis Langkawi has, of course, one of the finest spas on the island in the hotel, the Iridium Spa spans over 800 square metres fitted with marble walls, contemporary décor and artwork. It has 8 single rooms, and 2 couples’ suites, as well as two spacious relaxation areas separating the arrival and departing guests.
We enjoyed an hour and a half hour of Iridium Spa’s traditional Malay massage, The Urut Melayu (MYR570 p.p.) in the couple’s suite. Our therapists were so skilful and they were rubbing us at all the right spots. The massage session was so enjoyable I fell asleep halfway through. After the massage, we were treated with a couple’s bubble bath in the suite, a perfect way to end our relaxing afternoon in the spa.
Dining on the Beach – Pantai Grill
Pantai Grill is the latest dining option made available to the hotel guests (it wasn’t open yet when I first visited the hotel). The idea was simple, fresh seafood/steak over wood-fire barbeque as mains, ceviche and tiradito (raw seafood) as signature appetizers. The food was absolutely delicious and we loved the fresh seafood cooked to perfection, with our choice of sides and sauces. What not to love when you are having great tasting seafood on the beach surrounded by coconut trees and the sea? I’ll review separately our wonderful dinner experience at Pantai Grill in another post next.
All Day Dining at Gourmand Deli
We loved the casual food at the all-day dining at Gourmand Deli. The menu is fuss-free and food were freshly prepared. The Aglio Olio pasta with grilled prawns was the standout dish for me and Big Teddy Loved his Tuna Mediterranean Salad the most.
Champagne Breakfast at L’Orangerie
Breakfast at the St Regis is an elaborate meal with free flow of champagne and Bloody Mary, along with a sumptuous buffet spread and an ala carte menu. Big Teddy is not a big fan of alcohol during breakfast, which I always find it odd given he drinks more than I do.
Cocktails at Kayu Puti
Kayu Puti is the best place to watch the sunset in Langkawi and it’s my favourite place in this hotel (my previous review here). I love having cocktails on the huge overwater hammock here, while watching the sun goes down. We spent 2 evenings here mostly just chilling (me on both days), working on his laptop (Big Teddy on day 2). Cocktails here are great and they even served up a complimentary dessert on Big Teddy’s birthday.
Capture Your Moments
The hotel also offers complimentary portrait session where we had 30 minutes with the in-house photographer and shot around the some of the beautiful spots within the hotel compound.
We had quite a lot of fun doing the photoshoots and it had become our unintended pre-wedding shoots in the end. A complimentary 6×8 print with every session is given to the guests and we loved the compilation so much that we even paid extra MYR700 for the entire photo collection.
Since there are a lot of great Instagram worthy spots here, and for this reason, come and explore and use your imaginations to create your own cool Instagram posts here at The St Regis Langkawi.
Other Romantic Activities for Couples
We also did the morning Power Walk with the hotel’s fitness instructor even though both of us are not early risers. It was an extremely enjoyable walk even though it was longer than expected. I was told 45 minutes but we ended up almost an hour and a half out exploring the Eagle Square nearby. Since we were the only couple that morning, it felt very exclusive and Big Teddy had a great time chatting to our guide of the day, who did a wonderful job by showing around this lovely part of Langkawi.
There are plenty of other activities at the hotel to do as a couple. We did use the gym quite a bit, as well as joined the daily evening Champagne Sabering ritual at The Mansion’s terrace at 6.30pm. Water activities such as kayak and stand up paddle board are also available, although we didn’t get to try them this time.
Final Thoughts on The St Regis Langkawi
This is my 2nd trip back to The St Regis Langkawi and it is still my favourite hotel in Malaysia. If you are looking for the best hotel for romantic getaways or honeymoon in Malaysia, look no further as The St Regis Langkawi ticks all the boxes. We had a relaxing weekend as a couple, and thoroughly enjoy all the facilities and dining options available at the hotel. Top things must do as a couple at The St Regis Langkawi, in my opinion, are the spa session at Iridium Spa, sunset dinner on the beach at Pantai Grill, cocktails on the hammock at Kayu Puti, as well as the portrait photo shoot session.
So tell me which is your favourite luxury resort for romantic getaways or honeymoon?

This is such a romantic place! I need a destination for our second anniversary. Langkawi isn’t that far of a flight from the Philipines.
Yes this hotel is perfect for honeymoon!
Yes, Hotel looking so luxury and romantic. It is the perfect place for couples to enjoy.
You are totally right!
Wonderful hotels. Highly recommended for newlywed couples.
I absolutely love everything about this hotel; we went as a family of 5 including a toddler Dec 2018 and it was still so relaxing! I loved the butler service especially going with kids, it definitely made it much more of a true holiday without having to do much at all. We would love to go back again. We made beautiful memories there ❤️
I’m glad you loved it there too!
