Phuket 124 – The White Box Restaurant

After a long day out at islands hopping, we decided to treat ourselves with a fine dining dinner by the beach. Located at the Kalim Beach, this ultra chic restaurant provides complimentary one way pick up from our hotel. Hence before the dinner we already felt great being chauffeured in a SUV. The restaurant is stunning, we got a table closest to the beach, with sea breeze and waves accompanied us throughout our dinner.

Unfortunately, it was an election weekend so alcohol was off limit in Phuket. We were informed of that when we made the booking earlier. The menu was quite extensive with French/Mediterranean and Thai influenced appetizer, main courses and dessert. We all ordered the White Box 3 courses Discovery menu for THB990 nett excluding drinks. The best thing was we were able to choose from most of their standard menu for our appetizer, main course and dessert.

When our food finally came in their pretty presentation, we could no longer wait to start digging in as it had been a long day. The appetizer portion was generous, my Mixed Thai Starter came with Deep Fried Spring Roll, Crab Cake, Goong Sarong (BBQ prawns) and Chicken Sate. My friend’s lobster soup was creamy and delicious, I think they finished almost every drop of it.

Then we moved on to the main course, where I found my crispy salmon a tad too oily for me, and one of the Duo of French Duck was slightly overcooked. I heard no complaint about the pan fried salmon so it should be just fine.

Finally it was dessert time! I loved my deep fried ice cream and, and my friend’s White Box chocolate and Almond/Walnut tart (forgot which was it) were all turned out great.

Overall, it was a pleasant dining experience at White Box although some of the food (mainly the main courses) fell short a little. The appetizer and dessert were the highlight of the dinner, and we absolutely enjoyed the ambiance with the chilling sea breeze and sound of the waves. Sadly we didn’t get to check out the bar as it was a non-alcoholic weekend in Phuket. I’d love to return to this restaurant again if I’d be in Phuket again.
P.S. I apologize for the blurry pictures as our table was poorly lit and extremely dimmed. I shall do better the next time if I ever return to this restaurant.
