Food For Thought 192 – Lemang and Beef Rendang

Over the Hari Raya long weekend, I was tempted by the row of lemang stalls along TTDI main road. So I gave in to the temptation and bought a lemang for RM10 and a packet of beef rendang for RM5. Both turned out good, although I’d wish for the beef rendang to be more spicy. Well, I’m still a chilli addict remember? For those who are curious, lemang is a traditional Malay food made of glutinous rice and coconut milk, cooked in a hollowed bamboo stick lined with banana leaves in order to prevent the rice from sticking to the bamboo. The lady who sold me the lemang had to slice open the hot bamboo stick first just to make sure the lemang is cooked to perfection, before wrapping the bamboo stick again in newspaper. Not really a healthy food recommendation but what the heck its Hari Raya! ;-P
