The Best Luxury Hotel and Experience – The St. Regis Langkawi

This year’s most impromptu staycation thus far was definitely The St. Regis Langkawi. Mina and I decided to check out this relatively new luxury resort and pamper ourselves, after our stressful meeting in Berjaya Langkawi Resort for our Bank’s sales convention. So our self pampering journey begun after we waved our minions goodbye at the Langkawi Airport while we waited for our chauffeur from The St. Regis Langkawi. Our luxury experience got rolling with the BMW 7 Series pickup, completed with customisable massage chairs, cold towers and gourmet chocolates in the car. The half an hour car journey was so enjoyable that deep down I was somewhat hoping for a longer ride. It was also funny to watch Mina playing with her side of the massage chair buttons all the time just to experiment with all the functions.

After a short 30 minutes ride, we finally arrived at the beautiful St. Regis Langkawi resort. As we arrived early and our room wasn’t ready, we took a long stroll around the hotel, from the lobby to the beach, and ended up at the hotel’s beach restaurant, Kayu Puti with a jug of Sangria while waiting for our room. The service was so attentive and impressive during the first few encounters with the staff at the hotel, we were certain that our stay here would be a great one. For example, the beach bar waiter served us cold waters and towers without us asking while we were taking selfies and goofing around the beach and hammocks. Then, the waiters at Kayu Puti addressed my name correctly even I didn’t introduce myself when our room was ready. Also, they actually paid attention to what we were saying between ourselves about sunset drinks and dinner plan, made the reservations without us actually telling them to do so. I just loved to be pampered!

The St. Regis Suite

Our room was upgraded to the St. Regis Suite which was huge with separate living room and a large bathroom. Elegantly furnished with signature St. Regis bed, well stocked mini bar and a cocktail DIY counter, two 49-inch televisions, a big bathtub, and a comfortable balcony seating area overlooking the resort’s lush green and beautiful sea. Oh, did I also mention the 24 hours butler service which we had a dedicated butler to unpack our luggage, pressed our outfits, and sent us skimmed milk for our coffee & tea!

The bed and bathtub were my 2 most favourite things in the room. The plush bed was so comfortable to sleep in that I had hard times getting out of bed every time I was in it. The bathtub meanwhile was my haven a relaxing bubble bath.

Best Sunset in Langkawi

After a quick rest in our room, we decided to go back to Kayu Puti for sunset drinks before dinner. As mentioned earlier, we were surprised that the restaurant actually made the sunset hammock reservation for us even though we didn’t officially make one. Mina was craving for french fries (which wasn’t on the snacks menu), but the chef went out the way and made some for us. We were so touched by this gesture! We had another jug of sangria while we enjoyed the best sunset that I’d seen in a long while. After the sun was set, we continued our night with a lovely meal at the restaurant. I’ll review separately our wonderful dinner experience at Kayu Puti in another post. It was raining continuously in the later part of the night, so we just called it a night after the dinner.

Tips: The best sunset view is from the over-water hammock at Kayu Puti. Do make a reservation beforehand to avoid disappointment.

Champagne Breakfast Like A Queen

After a good night sleep in our posh suite, we really struggled to get out of the bed for breakfast. By the time we made it to the breakfast area, L’Orangerie just before the closing time, we were kicking ourselves when we saw the champagne bottles right at the entrance and realised that we could have a free flow of champagne for breakfast! But we were not that greedy, I just had a glass of bubbly with my Nasi Lemak breakfast. Who said the humble national dish of Malaysia can’t be paired with the high-class champagne?

The St. Regis Langkawi’s breakfast spread was simply marvellous. Apart from the buffet selection, we also had the ala carte option. I wished we could have spent another day here just to try the different breakfast choices.

Best Luxury Pampering Stay Ever!

When the BMW 7 Series dropped us at the airport, we actually felt sad to leave, but the last bit of their best hospitality was shown at the exclusive airport lounge only cater for The St. Regis Langkawi and Westin Langkawi hotels guests. After a whirlwind 24 hour stay at this relatively new hotel (it was just opened a year when we stayed there in May), I really didn’t want to leave The St. Regis Langkawi. It was a spur of a moment splurge (Mina and I were pulling our hairs trying to organize the sales convention), but this whole experience was definitely the best I’d ever experienced so far in my years of travelling. Service level was first class, and the hotel features & amenities were just splendid. I’ll definitely return to The St. Regis Langkawi, as I’d love to explore the parts of the hotel that I didn’t have time to this time, such as the Iridium Spa.

  1. Dear lord, you had me at the car ride in the beginning!! Massage chairs AND gourmet chocolates?!? What is this sorcery?!?!

This review – and your gorrrgeous photos – have me drool/crying. I’ve recently made a huge career change which has seen my travel budget shrink to (almost) nothing. Never fear, the St Regis Langkawi is now TOP of my list for when we can start to spoil ourselves again! In the meantime, I’ll try to make do with my own champagne breakfasts hahaha. Thank you so much for sharing 😉

  2. I haven’t been to Langkawi in years, but I heard it’s gotten a lot more built up over the last few years (source: taxi driver from Langkawi who was pretty unhappy about it). But I’m always on the lookout for interesting places in Malaysia to visit (husband is Malaysian) and this hotel certainly sounds like a wonderful experience! Top-notch service is so rare these days. Thanks for sharing!
