The most famous Taipei’s Shilin Night Market’s Hot-Star Large Fried Chicken (豪大大雞排) is available in Malaysia! I was in KL Pavilion last month and saw the banner near the food court but I didn’t get to try it until last weekend. Last Saturday, I was there alone picking up some stuff so I decided to drop by the stall to give it a try since I miss it very much ever since I tried the original one at Taipei Shilin Night Market. The stall was surprisingly quiet when I was there around 12.30pm as I was expecting some crowds due to lunch hour, but it was quiet and only one customer before me waiting for his fried chicken. I quickly made my order for the Signature large Fried Chicken with Extra Spicy for RM7.90 (ala carte price) and was told to wait for 5 minutes as they only started frying upon order. I did find the waiting was a little long since there was no other customers around but I was excited to get my Large Fried Chicken with lots of chili on it. It wasn’t really that spicy if you were to ask me but the chili did give some ‘kick’ to the tender fried chicken. The portion was as huge as I could remember from the Taipei Shilin Night Market (But the price was only RM5 there instead of RM7.90 here). It was super hot I had to leave it aside for a while before I could start biting it. It took me a very long time to finish over the afternoon and evening (that was the only thing I ate that day), so for RM7.90 I think it’s worth it if you really like fried chicken although I won’t recommend it for frequent partaking. Maybe once a while I will drop by to get my cravings fixed. Well what made this fried chicken so special is the unique and exclusive Chinese medicine marination used to prepare the chicken meat, so do not compare it with KFC. They do sell other food like BBQ Large Fried Chicken (RM7.90), Chicken Bites & Garlicious Chicken Bites (RM6.05), Crispy Drumlet & Wings (RM6.05), Tempura (RM6), Sour Sweet Plum Potato (RM4.35). Next time I should try the other smaller portion like Chicken Bites instead.
For those who never heard of this famous fried chicken, Hot-Star Large Fried Chicken is originally from Taiwan since 1992. The 1st outlet was at Taipei’s Shilin Night Market and quickly became the “must eat” indicator food in Taiwan with frequent long queues every night at the original stall. Currently, they have more than 70 outlets throughout the world, i.e. Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau, Shanghai, Singapore and Malaysia. Perhaps more franchise outlet will be popping out in Malaysia very soon….
