Uluwatu Temple (Pura Uluwatu) is one of Bali’s nine key directional temples. Famous for its breathtaking and remarkable location perched on a steep cliff 70 metres above the roaring Indian ocean waves, this was our first sightseeing in Bali. 

The entrance fee from 1st Feb 2012 is IDR20,000 (RM6.60) and proper dress code needed (knee length to be covered) to enter the temple.Sarongs and sashes are available free at the entrance. Our tour guide was kind enough to protect us from the monkeys with a huge stick as the temple is inhabited by large number of monkeys, who are extremely adept at snatching visitors’ belonging, including bags, cameras and eyeglasses. We were advised to keep a very close grip on all our belongings and stow away our eyeglasses and sunshades. One of my friends had to walk practically half blinded because he had to take off his glasses. ^o^

The cliff was fascinating but the temple itself was quite boring. We didn’t spend much time in the temple. Also there is a cultural dance knows as the Kecak Dance (monkey dance) held at temple daily between 6pm and 7pm with tickets from IDR50,000 (RM16.50). We didn’t finished the show as routine was quite repetitive and draggy in my opinion. But if you are up for an unusual and old (it was invented in 1930s) dance, perhaps you can sit through the whole show. 

Overall, apart from the cliff and sea that I loved, the temple was just alright, cultural show was interesting short-lived in the beginning, and the monkeys were extremely annoying.
