Last Saturday I was treated to the Mama Mia! Musical at Istana Budaya which I totally enjoyed it. I grew up listening to ABBA music and this musical brought back a lot of childhood memories. Mamma Mia! is a stage musical with a book by British playwright Catherine Johnson, based on the songs of ABBA, composed by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus. A stage-to-film adaptation, Mamma Mia! The Movie, starring Meryl Streep, Colin Firth, Pierce Brosnan, Amanda Seyfried, Christine Baranski and Julie Walters, premiered in July 2008, but I didn’t watch the movie knowing that I would be watching the live musical performance in Kuala Lumpur instead. This London West End cast was fantastic and the crowd were literally singing and dancing towards the end. Although the Act 2 was a bit dull for me cause I wasn’t that familiar with the songs but overall I still enjoyed this 2 & 1/2 hours musical. Plus I got the CD of all the ABBA songs by the original cast to sing along after the show, How can we not THANK ABBA FOR THE MUSIC?
