Downtown Bangkok is the Pathum Wan area, between Siam and Chi Lom BTS stations. Lots of shopping malls are situated along this stretch of the road, the famous being Central World, Gaysorn, Amarin, Siam Paragon etc. Also famous along this stretch of the road is the Four Faced Buddhas, with Erawan Shrine being the most crowded. There are many other Four Faced Buddhas around Bangkok, but somehow people like the one at Grand Hyatt Erawan Hotel.
Downtown Bangkok also was the place where the violent May 2010 Thai political protest whereby thousands were injured and 85 were killed. Poor Central World Shopping Mal was burnt too but after 2 years, the huge shopping mall has been fully restored with no sign of the past violent at all.
One can easily kill a day here in downtown Bangkok. Well, I’d recommend at least two days, three being the ideal if you have the luxury of time. For those who loves the malls, downtown Bangkok is best place to be, filled with never ending temptations. Let’s just hope that your wallet could last as too…. ^o^
