Bali 118 – Bumbu Bali One – The Original

Bumbu Bali One – The Original Bumbu Bali located not far from The Westin Nusa Dua and recommended by the hotel staff a local fare. We went to sample the food before our bosses had a dinner there just to make sure the food and place are okay. The place is al fresco in a Balinese building, we were worried about the hot and stuffy weather but it wasn’t that bad. We 4 girls ordered the Balinese Rijsttafel (Rp550k++ per order for 2 person) and the Seafood Rijsttafel (Rp650k++ per order for 2 person) , just to see what’re the differences before we make the final order for our bosses.

According to their website, during the colonial period of Indonesia, the Dutch lived rather lavish life’s, with plenty of servants to assist in making life as comfortable as possible. Eating was not any different and the choice given was either Colonial Dutch or Indonesian Cuisine. When ever they referred to Indonesian cooking then the basic phrase of Rijsttafel was used, meaning Rice Table. Contrary to European cuisine, which was mostly plated, Indonesian dishes were always served in the center of the table surrounding a large basket of steamed white rice.

The portions were so huge that the 4 of us could have just stick to 1 Rijsttafel but we were glad to have different variety to try. The Rijsttafel will start with a soup, then a huge plate full of main dishes with rice at the side, then end with another huge plate of dessert dishes. All the different meats were grilled to perfection and extremely tasty, absolute heaven for meat lover like me… The food was very good and we felt bad for leaving a lot of food behind because there were just too much food. I definitely like this non-halal version of  the original Bumbu Bali, compared to those not so authentic Balinese food in Malaysia (except The Uma @ Kota Damansara).
Overall, a good place for some local flare in Nusa Dua although could be quite touristy.
