London 124 – Speedy’s Sandwich Bar & Cafe

Speedy’s Sandwich Bar & Cafe in Euston is famous for being the BBC Sherlock’s cafe at Baker Steer. This cafe is prominently featured as the exterior shot of Benedict Cumberbatch’s character Sherlock’s home above it in the BBC TV Series. There are a lot of the TV Series’ posters and artwork all over the wall of the cafe. We didn’t know about that we first went there as we have yet to watch the TV series, which I subsequently watched and got hooked easily. Well, who doesn’t like Benedict Cumberbatch playing the most famous detective of all time, Sherlock Holmes?
The cafe is small and a little cramped with tables arranged very closely together. As we went around 10am just after the morning breakfast crowd, the cafe was pretty empty on a weekday morning. We ordered the Mixed Grilled Breakfast Breakfast (both for £4.95), with the only difference being either sausage or mushrooms. The rests are pretty standard with bacon, burger, onions, french fries and toast. It was a full western breakfast with so much food on a plate but we were hungry and that was lunch as well as we were traveling to Paris later in the afternoon. The food was good and service was prompt so nothing to complain about. Overall, it’s a good place to come and have your breakfast and coffee, while fantasizing a little about Sherlock Holmes if you follow the BBC series…
