I’d heard quite a lot about this hot and spicy chicken dish, Dak Galbi but I never got the chance to try until last Thursday. My sister and I were at Mont Kiara viewing some properties right after work, so when we were done we decided to grab a quick bite nearby. Wanting to try something new, I suggested Uncle Jang since I was craving for something extra spicy. Uncle Jang’s Solaris Branch is located right above Maybank Solaris Mont Kiara at the 3rd floor. We were quickly seated since the restaurant wasn’t crowded. The menu was simple, just order the Dak Galbi (spicy or normal flavour), and additional dishes to go with it. For those who are not familiar with Dak Galbi, it is a traditional Korean dish prepared by
stir-frying marinated chicken dices in a gochujang (chili pepper paste)
based sauce, sliced cabbage, sweet potato, and tteok
(rice cake) together on a hot plate.

We went for the spicy Dak Galbi with ramen, fried rice and egg. The food came quickly and the foreign waiters were helpful when it came to cooking the food in the hot plate on our table. I loved the spicy kick in the chicken and the ramen although my sister said it was too spicy for her. I could easily up another 2-3 level of spiciness for this dish (probable I’ll ask for extra chilli the next time I revisit the restaurant with some serious chilli lovers). When we were 2/3 done with the chicken and the ramen, we asked for the fried rice which also being stir fried right in front of us in the same hot plate. The fried rice was extremely yummy and spicy with a distinct seaweed taste in it. We couldn’t finish the fried rice so we took away more than half of it.
The final bill came to be around RM54 for 2 person, but the portion was big enough for 3 person at least. I was very happy to have found a new spicy food added to my KL list of places to get my spicy addiction and craving fix from time to time. Now the question is who will be brave enough to accompany me to eat this spicy Dak Galbi again? Especially if I want to ask for extra spicy the next time around???
